Rowan had some trouble last evening and overnight with keeping down some of his medications and feeds, so they switched him to getting nutrients through an IV during the night. This morning they started him back on milk and he seemed to be keeping them down, but in an effort to prevent future spit-ups they switched him from an NG (nostril to stomach) tube to an NJ (nostril to jejunum, part of the small intestine).

Neurology confirmed this afternoon that Rowan had a couple of small seizures overnight, but that they were very short (10-15 seconds) and very spread out throughout the night so they’re not super worried. Obviously, though, the ideal number of seizures is still zero.

The medical team tried another lumbar puncture this afternoon but they’re having a hard time getting to the small space with the spinal fluid they need without also getting blood from the surrounding tissue, so the next step is to try an ultrasound-guided lumbar puncture to help prevent that issue.

A few more specialists popped by to chat and get a look at our guy (infectious diseases, respirology) and we’re expecting a few more tomorrow (otorhinolaryngology). More questions than answers at this point, but hopefully we’re getting somewhere.
