A fairly quiet day at the hospital. Rowan continues to spit up some of his vitamins despite the NJ tube, which is quite a gastrointestinal feat. He’s also been spitting up stomach bile, which after double checking doesn’t seem to indicate a digestive system blockage (which was a worry for a bit), but it’s really not fun for him. He’s still intubated but he’s mostly breathing on his own and without a lot of assistance from the respirator, so they may switch him to a less invasive form of respiratory equipment. There’s a rumour the first set of genetic tests from the NICU has come back, but we haven’t seen the results and probably won’t get a chance to sit down and learn what they say until early in the week. He’s still equipped with the EEG but as far as we know he hasn’t had any more seizures since overnight Thursday night, so it will likely come off Monday morning. Because of the additional seizures they’ve seen this week, Rowan is now also taking a regular dose of an anti-seizure medication called Keppra on top of his prescription of lacosamide. He’s getting small and infrequent doses of morphine when he gets fussy, and tonight he had his hands tied down so that in the times when he is feisty (which is fairly often) he doesn’t yank anything else either by accident or on purpose. He continues to surprise both us and his team, though, so I don’t expect it will be long before he Houdini’s his way out of his restraints.
