We finally got official confirmation last night that there have been no seizures registered since Sunday, which is a huge relief. Rowan is completely weaned off of midazolam, which was keeping him heavily sedated, so we’re seeing more activity in the form of small twitches and movements that you’d see from any healthy baby. He’s also completely off antibiotics, as there doesn’t seem to be any new cultures from the lumbar puncture from the other day. They’re exploring the possibility that the underlying cause is a vitamin deficiency (vitamin B6, specifically) so they’re giving him some of that orally. Now that he’s less sedated, we’re getting to feed Rowan breast milk regularly along with getting to change diapers. Feed might be a generous term… we get invited to hold this vial of milk in this spot for a couple minutes and wait until it’s empty. But still, very exciting!
Still hoping to get in soon for that MRI… Stay tuned.
So to recap, we’ve ruled out viral and bacterial infections, we’re waiting on the MRI to rule out stroke or structural issues, we’re waiting a couple of weeks for blood results on genetic and metabolic disorders, and they’re also looking into it being vitamin deficiency.
